Anxiety: Understanding Symptoms and Finding Support
Feeling anxious at times is part of being human. Anxiety becomes a concern when worry, fear or physical symptoms start to interfere with daily life. If anxiety is affecting your sleep, work, relationships or sense of wellbeing, you’re not alone — and help is available.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety involves ongoing feelings of worry, fear or nervousness that can feel difficult to control. It may be related to specific situations or feel more general and persistent.
Common symptoms
Anxiety can affect both mind and body. Symptoms may include:
- Constant worry or racing thoughts
- Feeling tense or on edge
- Difficulty sleeping
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath or chest tightness
- Heart palpitations
- Digestive discomfort
Everyone experiences anxiety differently, and symptoms can change over time.
Why anxiety develops
Anxiety can be influenced by stress, life changes, trauma, health concerns, hormonal changes or genetic factors. It is not a personal weakness and does not mean you are failing to cope.
