Dr Laura Hassaram (MBBS, B Adv Med Sci, Cert EM (ACEM), Dip Mus)
I happily joined Andrew Place Clinic as a GP registrar in 2019 and love working within such a friendly team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff.
Since graduating from Melbourne University with Bachelors of Medicine/Surgery/Advanced Medical Science and a Diploma of Music, I have worked at Box Hill Hospital as an Emergency doctor for the past 10 years and in General Practice for the last 2 years. I subsequently gained a Certificate of Emergency Medicine under ACEM.
I strongly believe in the importance of cultivating nurturing relationships with my patients and their families. Being able to connect with people of all backgrounds is fundamental to achieving the best care. I'm passionate about empowering patients to overcome their anxieties and guide them in making decisions about their own health. 
I particularly enjoy the breadth of knowledge required for general practice, caring for babies to the elderly. I enjoy all aspects of general practice but especially preventative medicine, women's health and the joys and challenges of treating children. I am also interested in procedural work (including plaster casts, suturing, insertion and removal of Implanon).
Outside of medicine, music plays an important role in my life. I also enjoy art, swimming and travelling.

Our supervisors are:

• Dr Lisa Mifsud is the lead supervisor. She currently is the GPT1 Eastern Victoria general practice training coordinator and medical educator and a RACGP College examiner. Additionally she interviews for the selection panel for entry into the General Practice training program. She has also worked at Melbourne Sexual Health Clinic and is a trained IUD (Mirena) inserter.
• Dr Wendy Bernet has been the lead supervisor at Andrew Place Clinic for 25 years. Despite stepping down from the role in 2018 she continues to support the registrars and other supervisors. She has been on the selection panel for entry into the General Practice training program and continues to examine for the RACGP College examinations. She also was the supervisor liaison officer for VMA.
• Dr Christina Illing is one of associates of the practice and enjoys supervising and teaching the registrars. She went through the training program herself 2012-2014 and feels that this helps with appreciation of the learning needs of registrars and the challenges with transition to General Practice.
• Dr Melanie Hemsley has recently taken on the role of supervisor at Andrew Place Clinic, however she has been involved in medical education for several years. Melanie has a special interest in Women’s health and is on the board of examiners for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for the DRANZCOG (diploma) exams. She has also recently had a role teaching first year students in the University of Melbourne Department of Medicine. Melanie holds a certificate of Sexual health and reproductive medicine and is an IUD inserter.

As supervisors we provide regular teaching sessions and are happy to assist with FRACGP examination preparation.

The practice sees a wide range of medical concerns ranging from neonates to geriatrics. There is however a ‘younger than Victorian average’ patient population due to the demographics of the area (predominantly young families and students).

The current registrar is part-time and works one evening per week until 8pm and one in four Saturday mornings. There is no overnight or on-call work.
