Dr Wendy Bernet
MBBS, FRACGP, DipRACOG

I joined Andrew Place Clinic in 1990 and love working with a great team of doctors, nurses and admin staff who are all committed to providing the best possible care to our patients.

I enjoy all aspects of general practice but have a special interest in women’s health, family planning and aged care.

I am also committed to the teaching and training of our future GPs. The Registrar program at Andrew Place Clinic has seen over a hundred young doctors gain insight and experience through the General Practice Education and Training Program that APC has supported for more than 20 years.

I am married with two adult children and enjoy spending my down time bushwalking, reading, gardening and travelling.

Consulting: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and some Saturdays.

Dr. Eric Tay
MBBS(Hons), FRACGP

I graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1993 with Honours in Medicine and Surgery and have been a Fellow of RACGP since 2000.
My areas of expertise include:

  • Complex medical problems
  • Chronic health conditions including diabetes, renal disease and cardiovascular disease
  • Geriatric medicine
  • Removal of skin lesions (including skin cancer removal).

I have always enjoyed the variety and complexity of work that comes with being a trusted member of the local community.

Outside of work my main passion is exploring the world with my family. I have extensive experience in family travel especially involving kids with allergies and I really enjoy sharing that knowledge with my patients.

I also play regular competition table tennis as I chase a dream from my childhood!

Consulting: Monday - Friday

I returned to Andrew Place Clinic in 2014, having previously been here as a registrar in 2012. It is a fantastic place to work, with a very supportive team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff, and diverse, interesting and friendly patients.

My areas of interest include women’s health, shared-care, preventative health and removal of skin lesions. I also enjoy the privilege of looking after multiple generations of a family across their life journey.

When I am not in the office, I can be found chasing after my son, playing with my two dogs, baking and catching up with friends and family.

Consulting: Currently on Maternity Leave

Dr Lisa Mifsud
MBBS(Hons), BMedSci, FRACGP, DRANZCOG, DCH

I returned to Andrew Place in 2015 after completing my registrar training here in 2013.

I have a particular interest in women's health and sexual health - having worked at the Royal Women's Hospital and the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre. I am currently registered for shared care with the local hospitals and provide IUD insertion services at Andrew Place Clinic. I also enjoy all other aspects of general practice and am happy to see anyone in need. I work full-time which includes every Saturday and late every Monday.

Education is an important part of my working life. I am the lead supervisor at Andrew Place Clinic for our training registrars and am the Co-ordinator of level one training with the RACGP training organisation for Eastern Victoria. I also examine for general practice examinations several times per year.

Outside of work, you will find me exercising, travelling and enjoying musicals.

Consulting: Monday (late), Wednesday, Friday and every Saturday

Dr Melanie Hemsley
MBBS(Hons), BA BSc, FRACGP, DRANZCOG

I have been a member of the Andrew Place team since 2012 and became a fellow of the college of General Practitioners in early 2014. In 2017 I was happy to become one of the managing partners here at Andrew Place Clinic and am very proud of our wonderful team and the very high standard of care we provide.

I am particularly interested in women's health and hold a diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as a National Certificate in Reproductive and Sexual Health. I enjoy looking after women during their pregnancies by providing shared care for maternity patients at the Mercy and Northern hospitals. Recently I have expanded my office gynaecology services by providing IUD insertions here at the clinic.

A particular delight during my working day is also seeing and treating the little ones that make up the Andrew Place's paediatric population.

Educating our future medical workforce is an important part of what I do – I have previously taught in the department of Medicine at Melbourne University and I am currently a supervisor of our wonderful Andrew Place Clinic registrars.

Outside of work I am most often found running after my 2 busy children.  Other loves - (in no particular order) - include coffee, pilates, yoga, travel, reading and good-food.

Consulting: Monday - Thursday and some Saturdays.

I first joined Andrew Place Clinic as a General Practice Registrar in 2012 and just had to come back – it’s such a great clinic!
I am a bit of an all-rounder which is why I love being a GP – I like to look after everyone from babies and kids through to the elderly in our local nursing home.

I like to ensure you are staying as healthy as possible by looking at your preventative health care.

I enjoy women’s health and hold a diploma of obstetrics and am registered for shared maternity care.  I also like to do minor surgical procedures such as Implanon insertions and removal of skin lesions.

When I am not at work I will be tending to my large veggie patch, running after my toddler or our dog, or camping in the bush with my family.

Consulting: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and some Saturdays.

I joined Andrew Place Clinic as a GP in the early years and have been caring for patients in the local community for more than 35 years. I have seen four generations of some families and enjoy working and living in Bundoora.

My special medical interests are in allergies, asthma and hypertension, but I am just as happy helping patients of all ages overcome and manage their health issues. My colleagues and patients make this clinic an enjoyable and rewarding place to work.

I have an Italian background and can speak fluent Italian, although I am currently trying to also learn some of the finer points of the French language. Outside of work I also like to head to the golf course when I can and enjoy watching and supporting other sports.

Consulting: Monday - Wednesday

I joined APC in 2008, after several years spent working in Victoria’s South Gippsland region.

I  work across the full range of general practice problems, but particularly enjoy seeing children and babies, and doing minor procedures (lumps and bumps, suturing, implanon insertion and removal).

I also have a special interest in the stories and experiences of those using IVF to form their families, and in 2017 completed a Master of bioethics (through Monash university), with a focus on reproductive technologies.

The best part of working at APC is being supported by a wonderful team of nursing and administrative staff – and having a good coffee machine in the tea-room.

I happily returned to Andrew Place Clinic in 2012, following my time here as Registrar in 2010, and since then continue to thoroughly enjoy a career in primary care, amidst a fantastic team of fellow GPs, nurses and reception staff.

Whilst the broad, and often unpredictable nature of General Practice has always been a challenge and huge source of satisfaction, I enjoy particular interests in child, adolescent and women’s health.

Beyond this, there is much to be enjoyed, including life as a busy mum, and revelling in all things dog and running related!

I first started at Andrew Place Clinic in 2016 as a General Practice registrar and look forward to many more years of looking after my patients at this wonderful clinic.

Providing care for every member of the family, from babies through to those in their later years, is something I find really rewarding. I believe in the importance of developing a long term therapeutic relationship with my patients and focusing on high quality care for them.

On a personal level, I have three active, cheeky little boys and I spend much of my spare time running after them - both literally and figuratively! I also love movies, shopping, travel, as well as good food and wine.

I made the decision to return to Andrew place after being a registrar here in 2018. It is a great place to work with fantastic staff committed to providing the best of care to the community.

I enjoy the whole scope of health issues that General Practice brings. The ability to work with a large cross section of society is what makes my job really enjoyable.  I am very passionate about preventative health, lifestyle intervention and providing evidence based medicine, while trying to focus my treatment on the person not just the disease.

Outside of work you can find me running around after my family, riding my bike or bush walking.
